About Pittsboro
Pittsboro, the Chatham County seat, is a small town with an independent, creative streak. Its 1881 courthouse stands at the center of town in a traffic circle; restored after a 2010 fire, it now holds the Chatham Historical Museum. More than 130 buildings around it make up a historic district on the National Register.
The town is known for local farms, artisans and craftspeople, with galleries, antique shops and farm-to-table dining downtown. Chatham Park, a large planned community on the town's east side, is adding new neighborhoods, shops and parks.
Outdoors, Pittsboro is surrounded by water and woods: Jordan Lake, one of the most visited state recreation areas in North Carolina, is a few miles east, and the Lower Haw River State Natural Area protects more than 1,300 acres of river trails between Pittsboro and Fearrington Village.
