About Goldston

Goldston is one of the smallest towns in the region, with 234 residents in the 2020 census, and it wears its small-town identity proudly. Its motto is "Volunteering is our way of life."

Settled in the late 1800s and incorporated in 1907, Goldston grew as a railroad and farm town near the Deep River. Its row of early-1900s storefronts is listed on the National Register as the Goldston Commercial Historic District, and every October the town's Old Fashion Day festival brings the community together.

Goldston sits among farms and woods in southern Chatham County, about 13 miles from Pittsboro and 12 miles from Sanford.
