Garner sits just southeast of downtown Raleigh, close enough for a quick trip into the city, with its own historic downtown and a strong hometown streak.
The Garner Performing Arts Center is a good example: when the 1923 Garner High School was slated for demolition, a local foundation saved it, and its 471-seat auditorium now hosts music, theater, dance and comedy. Lake Benson Park offers 64 acres of lakeside walking trails, playgrounds, a dog park and the town's veterans memorial, and hosts the town's Independence Day celebration and outdoor movie nights. White Deer Park has a LEED Gold nature center on the edge of forest and wetlands.
Lake Benson and nearby Lake Wheeler add water views close to town, and more than four miles of paved trails wind through town parks.
