About Apex

Apex takes its name from its spot as the highest point on the old Chatham Railroad, and it runs with it: the town motto is "The Peak of Good Living." Its railroad-era downtown, a National Register historic district, centers on a restored train depot and is lined with locally owned shops and restaurants. The Halle Cultural Arts Center, in the historic town hall, has a 150-seat theater and two galleries.

Each spring PeakFest fills downtown with tens of thousands of visitors for music, local art and food. Apex Nature Park hosts free summer concerts and movies in its amphitheater and has disc golf, trails and a dog park, and the Beaver Creek Greenway connects neighborhoods to parks. Jordan Lake and the American Tobacco Trail are close by to the west.

Apex ranks fourth on Niche's 2026 list of the best places to live in North Carolina, and U.S. News & World Report placed it seventh in the nation in its 2025–2026 Best Places to Live rankings.
